Talk to someone in New Zealand
The New Zealand Gambling Helpline offers support on 0800 654 655 or by text to 8006. You can contact it about your own gambling or concerns about someone else. Its service information describes free telephone support and referrals.
Make the next session optional
You do not need to finish a promotion or recover a loss. Close the gambling site, switch off promotional notifications and take time away before making another decision. If a balance needs to be withdrawn, handle that as an account task rather than a reason to continue playing. Ask someone you trust for support if that would help you follow through.
Use limits that protect essential spending
Set a time limit and an amount you can afford to lose before any gambling. Keep rent, food, bills and savings separate. Do not borrow to gamble or raise a limit to chase a loss. Review spending across all accounts together; switching brands does not reset the cost. Where available, use account limits, time-outs or self-exclusion and ask the operator how they work.
If control is becoming difficult
Warning signs can include hiding spending, thinking constantly about gambling, chasing losses or gambling with money needed elsewhere. You do not have to wait for a crisis to seek support. Contact the Gambling Helpline and ask about options that fit your situation. If you have excluded yourself, do not use another account or casino to work around that decision.
